have all the rust-coreutils bugs been sorted out by now? i sure hope so
EDIT: ahh i see https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/an-update-on-rust-coreutils/80773 it's not entirely rust-coreutils, because there are still some bugs, answers my question tho
I really hope they didn't force more packages into snap and added more Canonical brain damage to the distro. I have a long laundry list of stuff I need to do to fix all the nonsense in Ubuntu 24.04, it might be time to switch to another distro.
Try Debian. It's the same as Ubuntu except it gets updates faster than LTS, is more stable, doesn't have snap or any "Canonical brain damage" and you can always run testing if you want even more up to date
The joke is…
Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning "I can't configure debian"
…but it's actually less headache for me to get debian working like I want than to remove all the crap Ubuntu bundles or tries to force down your throat. YMMV, de gustibus non disputandum est.
What do you mean by "updates faster than LTS"? Do you mean including stuff like backports?
For context, I'm using Ubuntu LTS to host MediaWiki for myself and some friends. It's been stable enough, and I like going several years between server upgrades. But the LTS PHP version gets to be older than what MediaWiki supports, which is a pain.
I'd happily consider switching to Debian if it's easier on this front!
I'm incredibly peeved by the continual energy spent into maintaining a solution that very few people seem to like or want, when there are better supported options out there too.
Apt didn't stop working and frankly, it's less headaches (subjectively speaking; I just don't want to find out how wrong I can be!) Every snap I've dealt with has been a mess by comparison.
At least other than that, it does seem like improvements in other areas? Only fear is related to XWayland and what remains somewhat problematic given (day job has cursed, older setups.)

I am surprised that Snap hasn't yet stabilised, but it's worth distinguishing the problems a user cares about, and how a distribution tries to achieve that.
Users no doubt care about software integrating, reliable updates, rollbacks being available, and secure devices. All Linux distributions do this, but they don't fare great here, despite all the hard work that goes into it:
Snap is Ubuntu's attempt at raising the bar here:
I understand having things break is a crappy experience, but it's worth acknowledging that Snaps are also trying to solve currently unsolved problems.
This distro makes Linux usable for me and I've been running it on all my computers for the past ~10 years or so now.
I care about stability over anything else, and even with the relatively stable distros (e.g. non-LTS Ubuntu) you get so many crashes, random changes that just distract you etc. with updates. I just want a distro that gets out of my way and let me work.
Yes I also hate Snap, but it's a small annoyance compared to everything else I'm getting out of this distro.
