RSS 2.0 Specification (2009)

The Atom feed specification is reasonably straightforward and avoids the zoo of similarly-numbered but mutually-incompatible forks of RSS.
I love Atom; I just wish it had brand recognition. Every single thing about Atom is superior to RSS except the name.
This is much improved over Dave W_ner’s original, but still an example of how not to write a standard spec.
Ironically, given frequent problems involving inconsistent date formats in feeds, this spec doesnt define the format of a date. Instead it outsources that to a page on a server that doesn’t seem to exist anymore: http://asg.web.cmu.edu/rfc/rfc822.html Of course if you look at the URL string you can figure out that it’s RFC822.
From memory, Rogers Cadenhead is both (Old) Internet Famous™️, responsible for this spec, and relatively easy to find on social media. I’m sure he’d be receptive to updating the reference.
