Today, DisplayLink still exists as part of Synaptics, and their most recent chips are supported neither by Linux nor by OpenBSD with open source drivers. Synaptics provides a binary driver for Ubuntu, which to this day hasn't been reverse engineered, yet.
The usefulness of these devices has apparently gone away, people do not seem to be interested by these devices anymore those days.
.. what ? displaylink is what every other usb <-> hdmi cheap dongle uses. They're literally everywhere.
