I find patching in Nix useful also for development shells. Sometimes I use some dependency only for testing or stuff like that, so I can patch the output to be more usable for debugging. It isn't something that I want to upstream, but when you just want to test against it and use it to debug problems, then it can be very handy.
How did you manage to revive an old iPod? “Just” replace the battery? Or something more involved?
"Revive” is likely too strong. I just pulled it out of the drawer…
I should replace the battery, but this is quite involved, so for now it must be plugged in to work (longer than 2 minutes).
