What of those of us who believe both that software has been eating the world and that we are in an eternal software crisis?
The author has a book for you - Out of the Software Crisis
I enjoyed reading it years ago when it came out
This is certainly one of the oddest wrinkles of this technology wave, for sure
I think the two groups are: those who really care about the craft of code vs those who see code as a means to an end.
If you are about the craft, LLMs are really depressing because it's generally doing a worse job than humans but even if it continues to improve to be better than us, it's taking away the craft from the craftsman. Even if it didn't take our jobs, it takes the joy from our jobs.
If code is just a means to an end, LLMs are great because you can have so many more ends. And besides, your users don't care about your code!
