What about using rel="share-url" to expose sharing intents?

Two decades ago, I used rel='...'
to add navigation links to my blog (and I still generate them). I recall some browsers used it to generate a navigation bar on the UI. Then the feature was removed and relegated to an extension. Now, I’m not sure if such extensions even exist anymore. Nice idea, but I’m not sure about the long term viability of it.
Also, I’m unsure how it even works? Is the expectation that the browser add “Share link” buttons on the UI somewhere? Now I need to keep track of all possible social media sites to share my links to?
I think the idea is for social networks to expose this meta tag so they can easily be added to share menus without things being hardcoded
