Feel free to tell what you plan on doing this weekend and even ask for help or feedback.
Please keep in mind it’s more than OK to do nothing at all too!
Steeling myself for this weekend's Advent of Code puzzles.
I've been forcing myself to put down the puzzle as soon as I get a workable solution (I'm telling myself I can come back and polish them in the second half of the month if I really want to), and I get the feeling I'm going to be really thankful for setting that precedent for myself as the difficulty ramps up.
I came back to today's puzzle, which I solved in Python at 1AM. Write a Rust version. THEN I was able to turn it into a Verus version, with two of the functions formally verified.
Playing Valheim with some old uni friends, and nothing more substantial than that, I think.
I'm still struggling mightily with anxiety and depression (and all the side effects of the medications) and don't really have enough brain bandwidth in me to do anything technically interesting outside of work. I'm just exhausted.
Sounds like a good weekend to me! One of the best possible uses of your time is spending it with friends, imo.
It is! We meet online every Friday and have done so since 2020, when we all started getting lonely during pandemic lockdown. We live far apart now, but we do occasionally meet in RL too. This weekend is all online.
(Much as the current trajectory of technology is extremely distressing to me, I am very happy that I can stay in touch with friends who live far away.)
I'm pretty sure that the lack of creative projects in my life isn't at all helping my mental state. There is a part of me that wants to get back into what I used to like (language and programming tool dev) - possibly with the explicit caveat that I'm just making toys never meant to get anywhere near actual industry; a deliberate off-ramp completely unconcerned with the Future Of Software.
But then I read tech news and get horribly, horribly depressed.
Just got made redundant, so probably polishing off my CV and catching up with sleep and Advent of Code. Will take Christmas off to chill and hammer LinkedIn Jobs in January...
Breaking up my fortnight on Tenerife by taking a long weekend away from work, picking up a friend that's flying in and doing tourist things for a few days. Looking forward to exploring the island more so than the couple of towns I've been hanging out in so far.
Chilling and figuring out how to write to the framebuffer on the remarkable 2. But mostly chilling.
Also doing Advent of Code, but with the twist of using my own little language which compiles to wasm, and publishing the solutions as an interactive blog. So it's about a third trying to solve the puzzle, and two thirds hunting the compiler bugs as I go :)
I just took a couple of personal web services out of Azure Functions and moved them to my FreeBSD machine in the garage. I want to find some time to write an article about the process and the results regarding extra performance, simplicity, and yes, lack of redundancy.
Attending EmacsConf [1], starting in ~10 hours. It's also my first time giving a presentation on a "conference" and I'm looking forward to see how people receive my tiny Emacs clone project. ;-)

Taking a visiting friend to the bus station & hacking a bit more on Nixtamal in hopes of getting an alpha next week.
