That’s wild. What an interesting article. Do you have a sense of the usage of Ada in today’s world in China?

I’d love to see similar content for other countries as well, for example, I have no idea about the history of computing in the african continent.

For further information, see this Considerations of Ada in Chinese from 1990. From what I can tell, it didn’t get much publicly visible adoption in China either, but I found various vague allusions to it on the Chinese internet (a lot of “how is it different from Rust?” or “is Ada outdated?” with a few replies each, yet informative, detailed answers implying competence. I didn’t find any Chinese names when going through random recent Ada journal articles either. I did find public information about Ada in (prewar) Russian drones, tangentially.

Maybe this is a dumb question: do they write all their code in English ?

I mean, if they’re putting work into the toolchain, did they take interest in non-ASCII source? Or is that “just” a total non-problem, I wonder

Code (and file names) in English, comments occasionally in English. Descriptions often just in Chinese.

I’m not familiar with corporate projects, but most school projects I’ve read from Chinese students have the comments written in Chinese; I haven’t seen Chinese variable names yet, even where supported.
