wsl --install archlinux
Oh but that takes all the fun out of the hazing ritual that is installing Arch!
That’s good news, I’m in the same boat and am also forced to use windows. I installed arch on WSL myself, but this route should be a lot easier.
I really hope a good, supported, solution to run things like i3 as a desktop. I know there are some hacky workarounds (connecting trough vnc, mostly) but a real workable solution would really make my day.
When I was forced to use Windows, I installed vcXsrv from choco and just ran a full-screen X session. No idea what the Wayland equivalent is. Pipewire something something?
can’t you use wslg? https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Install_Arch_Linux_on_WSL#Run_graphical_applications_with_WSLg
Yes and no; wslg can be used to run graphical applications, and it even works pretty well. It isn’t a replacement for the windows desktop environment tho, it only runs standalone applications (Firefox, gedit, ,,,) and not a full desktop.
Nice to see this officially supported. I wanted to install Arch in WSL on my laptop recently, but it’s a Windows ARM machine so the official image is out. Ended up importing an Arch Linux ARM (which I’m aware is not an official Arch project) rootfs tarball, and it’s working well.
