Awesome! How far are we from having Servo on Win95?
Is Win9x still widespread in third world Internet cafes like it was 20 years ago?
No. Even in 2003, people using networked applications like e-mail and chat in Mexican Cibercafes surpassed 50%, according to Velandia. JavaScript is continually evolving with new features, see caniuse.com. The new features are used in websites, making them incompatible with older browsers. As people upgrade to more modern operating systems, websites stop supporting older browsers.
If you want to use Chromium on WinXP, you have to use experimental software like Supermium. For Win9x, the situation is even worse. Firefox 2 from 2008 is the last release to support Win98.
Since Firefox 2 was released, websites have come to rely on features present in newer releases of browsers. Cibercafes with Firefox 2 would not have revenue.
I'm curious to know what applications are running this on Win98 (partially because I built the "world's fastest Windows 98 PC" back in 2022 [1])
Getting browsers newer than Firefox 2.0 (without the...joy of KernelEx) would be rather fun
