As long as you stick to the built-in repositories for Emacs packages (which are rather extensive), you can just do M-x package-install and install a new package. Everything is done automatically.
For anyone reading this and trying Doom: afaik, Doom discourages installing packages like this, and prefers the packages installed through its own package manager and packages.el.
That is because doom and its modules tend to install and configure bucket load of packages that may or may not clash with other packages.
Doom puts emphasis on taming the 'temperamental' emacs package ecosystem. It is very right in pinning too, as I've personally experienced such breakage and why I build my Emacs config via Nix these days.
These pins are updated at decent cadence, but something coming out of the left field and being updated (or left behind) the other compatible versions is bad user experience.
In general, doom takes its 'Emacs distribution' role seriously. It is more akin to Debian than Arch in that sense.

I've also recently purged all my neovim installs and I've either gone to vim-classic now (servers etc) and started with emacs-bedrock and evil-mode on 2 machines, and it seems to work for the most part. It's not my main editor, so can't comment on full on IDE-like experience, but good enough.
I’m using Neovim without any major config (a few remapped keys) and no plugin at all. I do code and book writing. Neomutt for email (which allows me to write using Nvim). Offpunk for web/RSS (which allows me to use nvim for list editing) and calendar.txt for calendaring (which allows me to… well, you guessed it).
I find that really fascinating because I really do not understand what people are doing with all those plugins and heavy configuration while, at the same time, they manage to switch quite easily between nvim and emacs (I tried for 15 days, I simply could not overcome my muscles habits).
My configurations are dead simple yet I’ve a hard time changing anything.
