Given the OpenBSD port, what are your thoughts on HAMMER2 from DragonflyBSD? in short, it's a block CoW filesystem, and I like the fact that it solves ZFS's memory footprint issues.
I have to look again. From what I recall, it's a pretty sane design, and the biggest things I didn't like were the way it essentially did a gc pass to free blocks, and the second was that it seems like the reduction of write amplification from Bε trees was worthwhile.
Interested to know orib's answer. HAMMER2 on OpenBSD would be great! I ran DragonflyBSD on my crappy second hand laptop years and years ago and was very impressed with HAMMER2.
I became aware of GEFS not that long ago and I like the idea quite a bit, especially your list of priorities. Would you regard it as "stable" on 9front?
Secondarily, would you have any advice for me as someone wanting to read and understand the code?
It's still marked as experimental in the installer, but I think that as of the last release I am reasonably confident in it.
The last fix for a bad bug was far too recent for me to call it stable though.
I feel good about it, but I'd strongly encourage you keep backups.
