The second part that deals with making the site bilingual is really interesting! Cool approach to compile translation files into Gleam. This is something I would consider adopting.
Didn't think people would be interested in this post as much, so I didn't post it. Happy to answer questions. I should note we didn't actually find / evaluate any existing i18n libraries for Gleam / Erlang. Seems simple enough to solve our problem (compile time key checking) with minimal code. That being said, someone on the Gleam Discord mentioned an existing i18n library so we'll be checking it out to see if it's a better fit.
I am in the center of this Venn diagram lol
Yeah, this post has my number as well. I started designing my own language and then realized I was about 80% of the way to Gleam, so I started learning it. And then like this post, I'm coming from Rails and standalone db -> sqlite, and share this post's opinions on the value of type safety, concurrency, and FP.
The Gleam Discord had a nice thread about this post. Folks shared concerns about reliability of the NIF (native implemented function) required for sqlite. The Curling.io team is aware and plans thorough testing.
Oh my god that’s so cool!! Curling looks like great fun
Highly recommended, it's a very social sport with a good mix of ages and genders. I've made more friends curling than I have doing anything else since I've started.
I tried curling once at a company event and it left me with newfound respect for the sport.
