Computing in freedom with GNU Emacs

A few times over my life I've moved into Emacs and after a couple of months moved back out, mostly because I never reached what I felt was a "good enough" state where I could get stuff done without sidetracking into improving and learning Emacs. I like environment extensibility but also like to be able to focus on non-infrastructure projects. Now that I'm older and retired maybe I should take another run at it to see whether I finally have enough spare time and patience to build a comfy lifestyle in Emacs.
I found the Mastering Emacs book to be very helpful in making things make sense: https://www.masteringemacs.org/
A nice talk from a very clear speaker. Pleasant to watch even with the L/R unbalanced audio. Will this finally be the year I switch to Emacs instead of trundling along with the ten Vim commands I know? Perhaps!
