U+237C is Azimuth

This appears to be the origin of the Angzarr, and is the resolution of previous investigations into the origins of this symbol. ⍼

It's also just an interesting bit of historical knowledge as it relates to Unicode, and some of the odd symbols contained therein.

Oh shit, mystery solved! Probably fairly conclusively, too!

It's funny that even in just 75-ish years we can completely forget the origin of something like this. Reminds me that we still don't really know where the $ symbol came from. Overwriting P and S for "peso" always seemed the most likely to me, but who knows for real.
