DDR4 is actually pretty nice to bring up since, as the article covers, many of the parameters that would need to be calibrated using special software as part of DDR2 or 3 are now trained on every boot. Of course many vendors love to generate DDRC register configurations via some tool anyway...

I find PC motherboards extremely impressive since they need to work with such a wide variety of RAM in so many combinations. Getting RAM to work reliably when there's just one part number soldered down is a challenge, not to mention doing it with some random stick from best buy.
