Story about the research paper posted on the institution website: https://cse.engin.umich.edu/stories/the-hidden-brain-power-behind-programming
This research is about "investigating, and making real, the potential benefits of neurostimulation for software engineering", through techniques like transcranial magnetic stimulation.
Maybe this is not something we should actually push for? Companies mandating the use of neurostimulation is absolutely going to happen if the tech is readily available.
Just let any of the larger pharma companies snatch it, and it will become medical device with all the corresponding pitfalls.
It's not yet too late to designate it medical intervention, unlike a certain psychoactive physically-addictive cardiovascular-risk-elevating substance that we normalised so much, especially in the work setting, that we don't even dare slap 18+ on its saleā¦
A thought that came to mind while reading this was the impact of rising AI tools on such research, since the majority of future software developers (based on recent trends) may not exercise the critical thinking part of the brain when programming, but outsource it to their AI tools.
So I'm not quite sure how that fits into this research, or whether it even needs to be looked at.
