Do you see learning? Self-improvement? The future leaders of our country? I’ll tell you what I see: wasted computing power.
I agree. Not because of the joke here, but rather because it’s diffusion-generated slop. Are you telling me you couldn’t find a stock image of children in a classroom? C’mon.
I’m starting to dislike how common it’s become to use the word “slop” to describe content generated by computers. The image is ugly, distracting, sterile, lazy, full of errors, and ethically questionable, but it is also a very minor part of an otherwise fine article (presumably) written by a human. I would also say it’s used appropriately here, and presented to make a point that is of interest to readers to the article. It’s not good, but it’s also not junk designed for the purpose of wasting my time.
Those are two separate issues, though.
I was describing the image itself, which, in my opinion, both is junk and exists only to waste my time.
it seems too obvious to be unintentional
context: OP works at Anthropic
So you could remove the satire in the article by doing s/crypto hash/llm token/g
?
(thank you for the context, I think it’s important here!)
This is hands down the best bit of satire I’ve read in a long time! I’ve been a follower of his blog for a long time and it’s such a joy to see even a satirical post get so much care and attention put into it.
