State of Kdenlive - 2026

I'm excited to see 10-bit support on the roadmap for this year. I don't even have any 10-bit cameras yet, but working with 8-bit footage on a 10-bit pipeline should have benefits as well. When Shotcut got it, I figured Kdenlive wouldn't be far behind. They're both great options, and I reach for one or the other depending on my mood.

External monitor playback is also going to be very nice to have this year.

TIL that Kdenlive has had object detection & removal support using neural networks and I am hyped. Not long ago I still manually removed backgrounds from some images and that was painfully slow - it hadn't come to my mind that this would land in open-source projects anytime soon. It seems there are some extensions for Krita and GIMP to do similar jobs but nothing fully integrated yet.
