I was frustrated too. This was my endgame solution for tilting ergodox enough (that I designed) https://www.printables.com/model/63836-ergodox-extreme-threaded-tent-kit
It's requires a Lego base but is very robust.
I havnt used the others but really like my Kinesis advantage. It sits at my desk so bulk is not a huge issue and I like the curvature which makes all the keys feel natural. Has anyone else used both and can offer a comparison?
I carry an Ergodox (from Falbatech, ltd issue black plastic from the great plague), but use an OG model Kinesis Advantage when I'm at my office, which isn't often enough.
Having made my own Scandinavian as-close-to-Kinesis-as-possible layout for the Ergodox helps with muscle memory, and I love every second of it. Having a mouse layer is something I have preferred, but a Ploppy Adept fits in my bag as well, so that's great. Got the click-to-toggle-scroll firmware in it.
Recommended all over! Falba has these cool three-pocket baglets, and I have one in my bag to keep my tools organized.
Having said that, the Kinesis feels like home. I would never prefer the Ergodox, as much as I'd love to. Note the Kinesis Advantage was the first, it's got like a decade head start.
However the legs on the Ergodox need tightening ever once in a while. The rubber tabs will fall off every now and then, causing it to slide.
All that is bearable and a small set of screwdrivers and spares in my bag goes a long way.
Why I'd always take the Kinesis, if portability and "What can you have at home?" weren't issues, is the curvature. Reaching the number row is easier, and the fingers are just a bit more relaxed. I never had to adjust the placement of the halves on the Kinesis ;)
But it's a close call and I wouldn't be unhappy if the Ergodox was the only keyboard I'd be allowed for the rest of my life.
Also the Adept trackball. Haven't been as excited about input devices in years. Too bad it's a buy-and-forget; there are cool tweaks around I'd like to try, but I can't justify the time and money and effort when it's just so damned good with click-to-scroll.
The filco majistouch fc660c with Bluetooth adoption is the most wonderful keyboard. I love my topre keys! It seems like everyone's using those cherries these days.
I think you meant Leopold FC660C. It's pretty much impossible to get it nowadays that it's no longer produced.
I wish I could use flat, rectangular uniboards, some of them look so cute.
I consider switching to an ortholinear layout occasionally, but replacing work and home keyboards is a big sell. And I've been a generally happy user of the Ultimate Hacking Keyboard (UHK) for ~10 years at this point.
ADB Extended Keyboard II. My wife, an English teacher, uses one with an iMate. Shame about the yellowing, but the keys are still great.
[The Moonlander] has everything the Ergodox EZ offers …
I don’t think that’s true: it’s missing four keys, and the left and right stacks are narrower.
I'm still happy with my Model M. I had to take a tour through the top of my Big Box of 80s Mechanical Keyboards after spilling tea in it (older one without drainage channels), but its back on my desk now.
Though the third interim keyboard I tried, a Zenith ZKB-2, was good enough that the Model M was in parts for a few weeks longer than it really needed to be. Had the Model M not survived, I might have dug out a cleaner ZKB-2 to use instead.
