Great work! By the time we hit 7.0 M1 and M2 will probably have all their functionality available with nothing missing for anyone. (Possibly except that one guy running Asahi through the screen of a smart fridge or something)
I say this once again, Asahi made my Macbook into my daily driver and made it usable. It's great having this hardware with Linux, and it's great being able to boot up into MacOS. It has been nothing but stable for me. Looking forward to using 120HZ.
Their work is amazing. Anyone from the Asahi team here?
Very impressive work.
I'm increasingly unhappy with macOS but I love the hardware - every time I have got a non-Apple laptop it's physically been poor (bad trackpad, poor build quality, very noisy fans at any sort of load, etc).
Has anyone found a laptop that can run Linux well and is as good build wise as a Macbook Air? I looked at the Asus Zenbooks but somewhat mixed reviews and the latest version downgraded the screen resolution it seems!
Every time someone builds one the brand gets enshittified. Asus Zenbook, Dell XPS, Thinkpad, and so on. These companies are just immune to quality.
I picked up a Dell Latitude 5430 for cheap recently that's running Linux Mint nicely. It's only an HD screen, but is sharp, and the only complaint I have is the keyboard is about 3/4 as good as a Mac's.
I also installed Asahi on my M1 Pro MacBook Pro recently (dual-boot) and it's pretty great. Looking forward to the 120 Hz refresh soon.
