I don't like that A. I need JS to visit a static page, and B. this website hijacks my scrolling behavior.

While you're at it, I couldn't control-click to open in a new tab. Why not use regular HTML which works as your users expect? I suppose maybe I'm meant to use my browser's reader mode, where things seem to work rather well.
Ahh good catch, I didn't realize this didn't work. I will look into this today as well. My goal is to enable a rich experience for those who want it, but also the minimal, expected no JS experience you're describing.
I think starting in the other end would be easier!
Thanks for the writeups and video, though. I am currently looking at migrating Ivy and various Counsel packages to a subset of the VOMPECC stack and this is helpful.
