Programming Aphorisms

Fitting that he should start off with the aphorism of "raising the abstraction level", because that's what his whole post is about. He's naming abstract things so he has handles to manipulate them—and then naming the act of using names, so he can speak about that.

It's a powerful technique. It's why we teach kids to name their emotions, and why we name our variables when solving algebra problems.
