That's a long-overdue change regardless of vibecoded PRs trend, to be fair. There should have always been a way to do that for read-only mirrors and projects that don't want to accept anything (like SQLite does). At least now there is.
Notably absent option that many people obviously want: restrict pull requests to human users. It wouldn’t be a perfect defense against the kind of abuses AI has been enabling in this particular space, but it might be a good start.
I'd take requiring whether an account is a human or machine user to be disclosed on its profile.
That would be a very good first step. Maybe we could also get disclosure of the human responsible for the machine user.
GitHub was so ahead of the AI curve than everyone else. Why are they playing the reactionary game now?
There is clearly something wrong with the product vision at GitHub. Their Copilot is basically a model router with very little value added. They got flanked by hugging face in supporting the AI community and now their infra is crumbling so they need to ship features to let people use less GitHub???
