I liked Elm and on a technical level I’m pretty excited about what Evan is building next, but at the same time he basically left the Elm community for dead (someone in the comments called it a rug pull).

It seems like the experience of developing Elm has left Evan extremely disillusioned with the whole development ecosystem. I feel sorry for him, but I’d really like to know what caused him to become so jaded.

I haven’t found anywhere he’s written directly about it, but if you watch some of Evan’s talks and interviews you can get a pretty good sense of how he’s thinking about the big picture, in terms of his work and his career.
I don’t want to speak for him but I think he’s a very thoughtful guy, with an uncommon willingness to look squarely at some of the unpleasant economic realities that we all face.
