Regardless of all the good reasons mentioned in the post, it was a bit sad to read this “news”.
A great idea and a great project. Would have liked to see it to succeed with more volunteers showing up and do "roadie" stuff.
Never heard of this, but from skimming the list there's only like 10 projects not having "django" in the name, so I guess this was actually 90% focused on django stuff?
It was, at least by default if not by explicit intention. Many of the people behind it have strong ties to the django ecosystem. (And that's clearly what inspired the name.)
