crosspoint-reader: Firmware for the Xteink X4 e-paper display reader

I recently got an X4, and have nothing but praise for CrossPoint. It's a true testament of what a community of people can do with a relatively open piece of hardware (or at least one that isn't purposefully locked down). I'm not sure I would be using the device as much with the default firmware (I've been using it a lot). Big fan!
What's the benefit of a device like this one compared let's say to a 6" Kobo? Let alone the bigger screen, it looks like that even with crosspoint an X4 has quite a few compromises
Isn't it half the cost of the least expensive 6" Kobo? And I would see the smaller screen/form factor as an advantage sometimes.
As the sibling comment said: it's very small and fairly inexpensive.
With a bit of effort, you likely could find a used standard-sized ebook reader for the price of a new X4, but the thing weighs under 80 grams, and it's smaller than my phone which means it's always in my pocket. I do like my Kobo (the ergonomics and the reading experience with KOReader are undoubtedly better), but it's clunky in comparison.
Interesting. I usually carry around my Kobo in the backpack and it never felt too big but I see how it is a very different experience than having it always in a pocket
