Is there a way to turn off that text animation? I found it very distracting to the point I was having trouble reading it. Almost motion-sickness-y
I usually get annoyed when people comment on presentation over the content but in this it’s justified. I used my browser reader mode just to stomach it.
When reduce motion is enabled, everything goes still. No exceptions, no compromises. The ambient lines disappear. Transitions become instant. Accessibility isn't a feature toggle. It's a design constraint that made the whole system better.
Can't speak for the app but the website/blog itself does appear to respect the iOS & macOS "reduced motion" system setting, but not enough IMO (not the fade in transitions). It's way too much on or off.
Any chance of seeing this for android soon?
really interesting! the phantom obligation is definitely real. I would really like to try this and would if I had a compatible device
Yeah, that description of phantom obligation really resonated with me. It's a shame this is not available on Android
Tbh I lost interest immediately due to the design of the landing page
initial impressions:
if any of this is a deal-breaker yw for saving $10
app author here, you should definitely be able to mark as unread with one of the swipes (it's a default one as well -- which platform are you on?)
releasing is indeed something special to this app as there is no analog I've found in greader compatible services, or any of the sync services. I was able to use star at least for saved!
I'm on iOS; swiping left brings up "Mark Read" for all posts, read or unread. It doesn't seem to be just a copy issue either, selecting it for a read post keeps the post as read.
(can provide a screen recording or do more tests if needed, happy to help this cool app!)
very curious. are you on the latest release? I will dig into this and replicate and then get a fix out asap. thank you for reporting!
oh: what about swiping right?
Version 1.0.2 which looks like the latest on the app store.
Swiping right brings up "Save", then "Share", and swiping furthest left brings up "Release".
I notice in swipe settings that "Mark Read" & "Mark Unread" are separate options; they maybe could be combined & contextual.
I think this is an interesting set of philosophical choices for a reader. I find it rather appealing. And I think I’d spend $10 on a good reader. But the description is fuzzy enough and the concept unusual enough; I’d like to try it out somehow before buying it. Especially when there’s no web version. I have the (maybe unusual?) requirement/desire to read and sync read/unread status from multiple devices, and some of them are not apple things. I don’t think I can decide how much I care about how well that sync works without trying it out.
I'm definitely building a web version, just not today. as for a trial, I'm not exactly sure how to accomplish in the apple ecosystem without going free with an in app subscription, and that model /always/ feels like bait and switch to me. :(
That dilemma is very relatable for me in the apple ecosystem. Also, I forgot to say… congrats on shipping! That’s a milestone worth celebrating and it looks like you’ve built a cool thing even at the same time as it’s not a thing I’m ready to buy.
Very nice for an initial release. One nit to pick is the lack of separate dark mode and light mode icons.
I'm glad to see a resurgence of RSS feeds, "cozy" apps, etc. But I had to stop reading as soon as the author started gushing over how intentionally chosen the font size was.
I mean, I care about typography and user experience, and if an app gets those right, it can be a sign of overall quality. But I did find it off-putting. (Though to be fair, being an Android user I'm not in this app's target market. Maybe what I find off-putting in a product announcement is more at home for an iOS app?)
I'm having some issues where touches are registering, it's most noticeable when you swipe to mark a post as read and then your scroll doesn't register if you start scrolling immediately after.
I'm currently using Capy Reader, which I guess has an unread count but it's only in the menu and I never noticed it until today.
The velocity concept seems useful/interesting. Particularly when you are following microblogging sites it's easy for your feed to get overwhelmed with low content posts. It reminds me a bit of FraidyCat, which had separate pages for hourly/daily/weekly etc feeds.
