Google workspace threatening to block firefox access

https://knowledge.workspace.google.com/admin/support/troubleshooting/supported-browsers-for-google-workspace suggests that Firefox is an actively supported browser for Google Workspace.
Is it possible this restriction is coming from a local workspace policy? There does seem to be support for restricting access based on browser configuration (https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/9049675 and https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/9116814) both seem like controls that would block non-Chrome browsers if enabled.
Thanks for these. Glad to know support was wrong about that as well!
I've had a look, and we haven't configured anything there that would be relevant and when I asked their support they claimed there was no setting for this
Can confirm that this is possible. At work I cant use Firefox to access the mail or anything related to google workspace.
You don't have access. Your organization's policy is blocking access to this app. Access to this app is allowed only from corporate devices with compliant status
Candidly, this is just more of what has been bubbling under the noise floor already. There have long been sporadic similar reports from YouTube and the like. Once Mozilla's browser contribution to Google's ad views, I mean, search views drops below a critical threshold, I don't see any administrative reason for them not to do so more openly.
and don’t want to be forced to use Chrome for no discernable benefit.
Discernable benefit: be able to use the system
Ah, the distopy!
Google doesn't believe they answer to anyone.
They must be exterminated as a business.
This can only be done by putting them out of business in every single sector and product they dominate.
Thankfully, they have done this for search themselves.
Honestly, I don't seen anything in that messaging suggesting firefox is forbidden per se. The chrome messaging is more likely just bad communication than a hint at what browsers are getting blocked. Was this triggered by firefox usage? Or was it triggered by something else. There is too little information to know how that email should be interpreted.
