To be honest, the title put me on the defensive, but I think she offers a valuable perspective. The target audience is men, and the call to action at the end is quite reasonable: talk to your colleagues and friends about these issues ahead of time, in an attempt to reform cultural norms. Personally, I would love to work with more women in my field, so I hope something grassroots like this can work. We might also need something more systemic tho, like scholarships or hiring incentives. If I remember correctly, Recurse Center tried a lot of stuff to try to get more underrepresented groups, and they ultimately succeeded, but nothing they tried was nearly as effective as cold, hard cash.
Once there are enough women in a given space, I think these problems tend to sort themselves out, but from a starting point of women as a superminority, it's a tough spot to be in as those women and as an organization trying to rebalance.
