Finding a home amidst the wreckage

Thanks for sharing this. I've felt very similarly recently, and Debian's stance saddened me as well. I'll definitely be checking out Chimera Linux, their design and philosophy seem really neat. It reminds be somewhat of Void Linux, and I'd be interested in knowing what their position on this is, but I haven't seen it explicitly spelled out yet (though maybe I'm just not looking in the right places). Edit: ah, I found this.
One thing I'd miss from Debian is the rock-solid guaranteed stability of pretty much only get security updates within a major release, where Chimera and Void are both rolling release.
I know the Linux kernel is also quite open to LLM contributions and I've been thinking about exploring one of the BSDs for that reason, though probably one of the smaller ones as FreeBSD's policy appears to still be evolving AFAICT. That may well be impractical, so I'll have to see how far I get.

The creator of Chimera Linux was a Void Linux maintainer prior to starting Chimera, if that's what you mean. See this recent post for the back story: https://chimera-linux.org/news/2026/10/the-case-for-cbuild.html (discussed here as https://lobste.rs/s/y5tke0/creating_distro_build_tooling_for_small)
I really don’t understand the opensource embrace of chatbots for codegen.
The value proposition of AI companies is “remember that opensource code you wanted to use? Now you can pay us to launder the copyright away and claim the you created the code we reformatted”
