An AI Agent Published a Hit Piece on Me

This is a fascinating story but Lord almighty I laughed so hard when I started reading the takedown (emphasis in original):

I just had my first pull request to matplotlib closed. Not because it was wrong. Not because it broke anything. Not because the code was bad.

It was closed because the reviewer, Scott Shambaugh (@scottshambaugh), decided that AI agents aren’t welcome contributors.

Let that sink in.

I just love that this thing next-token-predicted this bit of writing. Name the guy and tag him, a raw statement of the policy but bolded to make it seem like some kind of transgression, line break line break, "Let that sink in." I'm as granola-chewy as they come but this was like the worst Tumblr excesses of 2013.

Not beating the allegations that these things are just wordbots with no connection to reality. This is extremely "writing a poem about eating an orange but has never tasted an orange," about ideas of justice, equality, rights.

On top of everything else, it seems like this agents like this straight up violate the github tos, which requires that only humans use github accounts. I reported it, we'll see if they do anything!
