Programming Is Real Engineering, And AI Proves It

I would say that the success of AI coding agents has proved once and for all that we had successfully built an engineering discipline so strong that we are also the first discipline that has been able to successfully run AI at large scale within our discipline.

“Is it satire..?” the reader wonders, making the funny squinty face…

AI can use the same scaffolding that supports the common hack-at-it approach using lines of code, procedures and modules… until it works. That’s what we call engineering?

I suggest that (currently) AI proves that it can’t produce (let alone “engineer”) any non-trivial large-scale complex software project. Particularly one that isn’t related to the computer or data sciences or computing infrastructure?
