The very first example shared in the article is so hilarious that I did a double take:
John Doe and Jane Smith. Webvoyager: Building an end-to-end web agent with large multimodal models. arXiv preprint arXiv:2401.00001, 2024.
My most charitable interpretation of this is that an author wrote down some placeholder names and forgot to come back and fill them in. I really really really do not want to believe there are researchers who are writing an entire paper and prompting ChatGPT “Ok go fill in the citations” because that would be an incredibly stupid thing to do.
