What are you doing this weekend?

Feel free to tell what you plan on doing this weekend and even ask for help or feedback.

Please keep in mind it’s more than OK to do nothing at all too!

I’m hosting a coding meetup in Seattle tomorrow. We have two demos on:

  1. Fluid simulations
  2. Module synthesizers

Each from someone who’s worked on this stuff by hand. The whole café is reserved for this human nerdy goodness. (Drop by if you’re in the area!)

Just landed in Vienna for the first RubyConf AT and my first visit to Austria. Looking forward to exploring and enjoying good coffee.

Just bought a Radxa Cubie A7A off Amazon to act as a stand-in for my homelab machine which threw an SSD a couple weekends ago. It is, unhappily, the best way to test how well the Ansible playbook describes the setup!

IRL: Splitting some wood after finally reviving my gas chainsaw. The electric one is wonderful, but after draining the gas and applying a tune-up kit to the bigger, meaner saw to deal with the 2'+ rounds someone left me along with what they were supposed to in a Chipdrop a year ago, I remember there's a big difference in capability between the two saws.

I’ll be polishing WordJoy, an idle/incremental puzzle game about Chinese character components.

The loop is: place components on a 5x5 board, combine adjacent parts into valid hanzi, upgrade pieces, and let the income snowball.

This weekend I’m mostly tuning the early-game feel: clearer combo feedback, easier board rearranging, and faster access to higher rarity pieces.

Attempting a redesign of my site that targets old (and text-based) browsers first, with CSS to render nicely on modern browsers.

Any suggestions on which old browser(s) to target? Mosaic is an obvious answer, but is it too old? I’m thinking an old version of Mozilla (but how old?) or maybe the final version of Netscape (so I can insert a “best viewed with Netscape button)? Maybe I’ll settle for “last browser before CSS”. Clearly, I have not thought this through.

Saturday is very rainy so I'd like to take some time to work in my webhook-based discord bot. I've only done a very minimal setup so far and need to set up request verification as discord requires bot operators to verify the signature of incoming webhooks. Which is a good thing that other people have to do, but annoying when I have to do it.

I've ported my niri actions script to be a client-daemon thing (for speed) with the power of socat. The daemon is a clojure program with a background thread that tracks niri events for a view of the window tree - I'm gonna keep refining it until I reach "comfy" levels equal to my prior bspwm setup. I'm currently musing on the implications an "edge" (left/right-most column) might have on window actions, such as center when you focus off an edge into nothing.
