The terrible menu bar in the Windows 11 Notepad

Things like this are what I mean when I say "g" is a tiny fraction of a "gui". There's so many little interactions people expect to just work, and as soon as you hit something that doesn't like this, your workflow is so interrupted.

This is why I say you shouldn't write your own reimplemented widgets.... I guess even if you're Microsoft. (but then you ask, how do I know how much work it is to get it all right? well i plead the 5th lol)

Around 2006 an online game switched from using Windows windows management to rolling their own frames and scrollbars. The scrollbars were so bad that if you moved the slider one pixel you would miss lines. Just use the standard controls!

But also, if you do it a few times, disabled items suddenly become enabled.

I can't believe this is true, and yet here it is, right in front of my eyes. Also, the position of the menu seems to jiggle around when this is happening?
