Now that's a great title (and a read)! Just ouf of interest, as we are on the topic, have you ever tried weighted blankets and do you find them to work for you if you have?
I've owned one in the past, and generally like them, but I got rid of one in a past move so I don't own one anymore. They don't help with regulating your body temperature though, so they weren't exactly what I was looking for here.
They can also lack breathability depending on how they're made, and they can be expensive (though I feel like I've lost the ability to say that compared to the Chilipad). Having done very little research, the one I remember storing away in the back of my mind to check out later is this one because it has an open weave that looks breathable: https://bearaby.com/products/tree-napper
I wanted to look into this sort of product, and eventually I'll dip my toes in. Though according to this video, the best bang/buck solution is... a bucket. Though I guess no API in that case!
I actually watched that video. I fear that a Home Depot bucket does not pass the (non-existent) spouse test š
I have the same system and when I get some time I would love to take a crack at reversing it to get local control. Itās great that they have an API but it would be significantly better if I donāt have to rely on their cloud servers to control the device I own.

Fun read, Iām not sure I got what writing this achieved though? What can you now control? I like your comments on how your brain works, I connect with a lot of them especially the fan.
I have a PhD in physics. I built lasers that spit out 80 femtosecond pulses, and I did quantum mechanics simulations. I am so scarred by that experience that my default stance on science-related (which includes health) headlines and social media posts is "bullshit until proven otherwise", where "proven" includes but is not limited to "corroborated by my doctor or a consensus of medical professionals." And to be clear, that distrust is not distrust of science, it's distrust that nuance has been stripped away to fit into a headline, essentially. I am not a doctor, and I'm very aware of that.
I donāt get the point of this paragraph and it feels one step away from a dangerous line of thinkingāI donāt vaccinate because I donāt trust it vibe. But I think I get your point that your PhD made you doubtful of taking media stating āfactsā as reliable when itās frequently not as black and white.
What scarred you in your PhD?
tldr: The line of thinking goes in the opposite direction. I'm a physicist, but that doesn't give my "vibes" any special power in medicine, so I don't trust my vibes there. My best bet is to listen to the people who have studied the material and not try to LARP as a physician because I read a couple of articles. This isn't blind deference to authority, but rather admitting my own fallibility and hoping that others would listen to me in the the few domains I have studied.
Another physicist here who resonated with that paragraph, partially because it is promoting the exact opposite line of thinking to the one that you are suggesting.
I remember when Andrew Wakefield published his original paper about vaccines and all of the headlines that came with them. An abundance of folks who read nothing more than a one paragraph new paper article written by someone who has read nothing more than an article abstract were telling me that vaccines were absolutely dangerous. Then my high school biology teacher, with a masters in zoology, started giving anti-vax talks. Having a physics PhD, I know a lot of other physics PhDs, and three of them have ranted against vaccination.
Throughout all of this, though, the "consensus of medical professionals" has remained that vaccines are safe, effective, and one of the most powerful methods ever devised to save lives. I've been presented by a myriad credentials by antivaxxers, but every medical research doctor I've met has been united on vaccines.
I cannot speak for the author, but what "scarred" me during my PhD was gaining enough knowledge in my own field to see the gulf between what was being reported in the news versus the actual discoveries. It made me realise how little I know and that truly understanding all of it is not possible, so I will need to trust others outside of my area of expertise. However, that humility has (arrogantly) shown me how often others rely on grade school level heuristics to understand situations that are vastly more complicated. Thus, I listen to doctors about medicine, ecologists about the environment, climatologists about the climate, etc. Again, I've seen trained physics PhDs "disprove experts" in each of these fields using middle school math and grade school science, but I've also talked with the experts in these fields and heard them talk about the gulf between the grade school science and what we actually know of the world. Having be "scarred" by seeing that gap in the fields I have studied, I'm more inclined to believe the people in the fields that I have not.
Yep, this was pretty much exactly what I was trying to say, so thanks for elaborating for me. I'm definitely not an antivaxxer, that's why I said I trusted my doctor.
The important bit is that you don't need to include all of the keys, and you don't need to wrap it in a { "control": ... }.
If you can just yeet fields via whatever structure you'd like, then it's almost certainly they are doing re.search('set_temperature_f": (\d+)',... in their handler
