Implementing protocols like this, mostly from-scratch and for my own enjoyment, is so much fun. I've been thinking about how to do the same thing with ActivityPub, Mastodon's protocol.

Also interesting is JWZ "old school" approach: replies to a mastodon post are recreated locally by a cronjob as comments to the corresponding Wordpress post: https://www.jwz.org/hacks/mastodon-to-wp-comments.php.

This is not an ActivityPub implementation

I have Bluesky/mastodon comments for the "mmicroblog"section of my website. Though I only fetch comments and visitors can't comment directly on my site.

Ah! I’ve been wondering if I shouldn’t do something like that on my own website, it’s pretty cool to see the concept in action. I remember similar approaches for Mastodon as well.

This bounced around as something we should do at Twitter for ages but I don’t recall even a hack week project testing it. Someone probably had a prototype but my memory of those ‘before days’ are unfortunately fading. Glad to see it finally get some legs.

I'm using Mastodon replies combined with traditional comments. Made my own commenting system for that: https://www.splitbrain.org/blog/2025-03/26-meh_another_comment_system
