That would be a reasonable position if there were already a usable way to install web apps. But there isn’t. It’s technically possible to add a website to your iPhone’s home screen. In practical terms, it’s a convoluted usability nightmare.
Odd. I've been using PWAs for years and they seem to work quite well for me. I feel like I'm missing some context, like the author seems to hint at a lot of stuff that is not mentioned or referred to in the blog post.
Apple doesn't implement PWA install and hide the button for it in an obscure place (share).
Question to those who use PWAs: What is your experience with push notifications on mobile? I've not been able to get the same experience there as with a native app, even on Chrome for Android, and I suspect the reason is that on native the notification channel just has a fundamentally different architecture for battery saving reasons.
This is good, and necessary, work - but the last time I interacted with the W3C in any way was over the introduction of EME, and it was a profoundly negative experience.
It was abundantly clear that it was happening regardless of what arguments were raised against it. The entire process of community engagement was so clearly a sham that I haven't bothered since.
Genuinely curious to know whether that was a one-off, or whether the same thing is going to happen with support for installing PWAs.
