This is my experience as well. Maybe I am not a pro enough gamer but I've found basically no noticeable difference in latency attributable to X11 vs Wayland, application-based latency is usually where it's at. Good to have a controlled, rigorous test set up!

What I do notice, however, is that X11 tears like there's no tomorrow, to the point where it's almost unusable for video, and I have never gotten tearing like that on Wayland.

I did not know about the PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 flag (again, not a pro gamer) but I shall try enabling that next time.

I guess the most interesting thing (for me) that I learned from this article is that Diabotical can be played on linux. I was under the impression it had some anti-cheat that prevented that...
