That is so nice! It makes me want to go grab my first gen iPad Mini out of the drawer it's come to rest in and give it new life.

Thanks for the kind words! If the ecosystem weren’t so closed, I think we’d see much bigger communities forming around old hardware and keeping it useful for years, such a shame...
Yeah. I think, as part of e-waste reduction, it should be a law that they must give you the keys to the bootloader once they stop publishing OS/browser updates for a thing. (Really, I think they should be required to do that any time you ask, and it should be their prerogative to not supply software to unlocked devices if they believe that's a concern.)
That's actually my primary objection to Apple tablets, which I consider otherwise to be nearly perfect computers for people who can't be bothered to learn how computers work.
Woah! I had no idea the first gen iPad minis were so old! I thought they were one of the more relatively recent apple releases (post ios7 at least!).
Oh but ios7 was eons ago too... My brain hurts. :/
In my head the first mini still feels relatively recent too, but 2012 was somehow fourteen years ago. Seeing iOS 6 again really made that sink in.
