Perfect, I just needed this
This is pretty cool, and there are not actually so many alternatives out there!
I am using Proxmox, and I recently discovered Incus. Unsurprisingly, both have some degree of ZFS support. But basing your hypervisor on something with full ZFS support is likely a great idea.
OTOH, if you are mostly going to run Linux VMs, the LXC support in Incus/Proxmox is very attractive. I know that BSDs do have some support for Linux-compatible containers, but I never find so much information on how well that works.
Incus is great because it also does docker(OCI) images. So you don’t need whatever the heck is the latest hotness when it comes to running docker containers, Incus will run your VM’s and your Docker images for you. Plus will happily cluster across nodes, for when you need more than a single host.
That said, bhyve is fine, but it’s not a one-stop-shop easy mode like Incus.
Any resource to understand what makes pf and bhyve stand out?
Only Linux guests are listed as “ready” (edit). Not even FreeBSD guests which are native to bhyve and don’t require installing GNU GRUB. Weird.
