Everything changes, and nothing changes

The whole premise of vibe coding is that somehow being able to produce large volumes of code faster is a competitive edge. Though even prior to AI, there's this paradox of productivity, where all manner of practices that seem like they should improve productivity, or correctness, or speed hasn't really seemed to materialize any competitive advantage.

The median software engineer is still writing gang of four-style Java 8 in a warm, noisy and stuffy open floor plan office, and they don't seem to face any competitive pressure from programmers with better tools or more beneficial circumstances.
