What are you doing this weekend?

Feel free to tell what you plan on doing this weekend and even ask for help or feedback.
Please keep in mind it’s more than OK to do nothing at all too!
Wife is away on a social jaunt with friends, so I'm taking the Boy (14) to a local tapas restaurant / bar for pizza and music, to see two local bands. The first is a duo barely older than him, and the second is a duo my age -- indeed, friends of mine.
If the weather is OK, I also intend to fit two new tyres on my Laser's launch trolley so I can take some photos and list it for sale. And clear the gutters on my house. I'm afraid of heights, but thankfully it's a bungalow!
I did an AI hackathon last weekend to learn more how people are using AI (my team got 3rd out of 15). Everyone did so much I'm both unmotivated because my craft feels dead and inspired by how much I could do.
Between that and the rampant decompiling trend, life is weird as a professional game dev. I've been using AI to do more, but I'm so conflicted its difficult to move forward on anything. I've learned a lot about spec writing, so my goal is just to build... something, and then another something.
Going to an open source halloween-themed LAN party, then C2C on Sunday night, and probably chill, write a little bit of code, play some videogames, or take a walk between those.
I managed to get my GNOME launcher almost done in the past few days! Now I just need to do better filtering with nucleo-matcher and hand off programs to systemd through D-Bus to launch them, but it's something I've already done in another project so it's just a matter of copying and cleaning up the code.
Side note: I wanted to develop this project on Codeberg, but I found that it takes a minute or so to push and pull through SSH! Am I doing something wrong?

I don’t think so, I’ve also noticed this before to the point where one time git push hung on me. I had to Ctrl+C and relaunch the command
Going on a long trail run, trying to find some good local food (I’m in Lisbon for a few months) and working on my very early stage supply chain defense proxy for cargo!
Unsolicited recommandations but hey, I do love every time I pass by Lisbon:
Finishing one trip around the sun
Updating miniflux since I installed it seven (seven!) years ago.
Hoping to get some time to work on my JS-less pan and zoom of the OpenStreetMap tileset. Already worked out how the tiles are addressed, so in theory the Hard Thinking's done.
upskilling on terraform and gcp
Travelling to meet family and also figuring out how to rearrange my workspace to best fit in two 32-inch monitors that I've ordered.
Traveling back home for festival season and looking forward to not agonizing over what to cook every morning and evening :D
enjoying my second weekend of gardening leave, hoping my knees stop hurting, watching the FFXIV fanfest keynote and going to a Halloween party tomorrow
Might touch my blog, but I'll probably spend the entire weekend on do-not-disturb again. It was nice last week.
Entertaining a toddler and looking forward to a new job at the end of the month. 👍 Might get some DIY time.
Delighting in the fact that I've got 3 weeks of PTO ahead of me!
Apart from that, a few years ago I wrote a simulation of a slime mold based on a paper. I was a beginner programmer then, and so it was very inefficient; now that I'm looking into CUDA and generally SIMT, it seems like a rewrite is in order, so I'd like to get started on that.
Having mom over for breakfast tomorrow and my partner is leaving for a 2 week work trip on Sunday, so we will spend some time.
Also prepping my snowboard for the season since I’ll leave for my first trip next week.
And trying not to think about work, hah
Watching Over the Garden Wall with friends for Halloween :D
Also, Seven Havens' last episode drop and Final Life's first are both happening today so I'm inundated with things to watch this weekend.
In "doing things" news it's mostly writing a raytracer for one of my classes. I think that's gonna take up the actual bulk of my time.
Working through csprimer.com, thinking about where to host Lobsters' first London meetup and applying for jobs.
Coding meetups coming up for Handmade Cities!
And we found two new meetup hosts for Philadelphia and even Australia. The latter has an event planned for November.
Happy Friday~
A friend is coming with their family for a night to our house, probably some groceries at the market and working a bit on Sunday.
Trying to see if I will keep churning some token on specific VCV Rack modules or the TUI Tracker I was designing. Maybe Renoise is enough for me and I don't need these bespoke but random bits of software.
Building a Lunar Lander game clone in JS/WebGL 2
Will eventually port it to Odin + SDL3 + Emscripten so it compiles to a WASM artifact, learning how much friction there is in the process.
All this to build myself a stable platform for games that mostly targets the web. WebGL 2 is old yadda yadda, but it’s more than enough for a wannabe indie gamedev that just adores the PSX/PS2 era aesthetic.
That said, I’m out of a job since June, I should be thinking of finding a job that somehow doesn’t require me to turn into a reverse centaur; or become an entrepreneur to earn a living. But I figure hiding my head in the sand is probably the only way I can remain sane, rather than staring at the abyss of my career as a freelance software engineer in the AI era
I'll put Iocaine in front of my Forgejo and I'll start writing a federated search engine again.
writing a federated search engine
That sounds exciting! How would it work?
There are basically three things you can federate:
(1) & (3) are quite easy to do. Just throw some URLs into a web feed! (JSON-Feed is easiest, Atom & RSS would work too.) In case of (3), the feed needs query parameter and should have some kind of protection against bots. (Most likely some token.)
(2) is a bit more complicated for both legal & technical reasons. Just distributing WARC is expensive and violates copyright. Some kind of SQLite database with already indexed pages would also be a good option. But to show sections where the search terms matched, you'd need full text again.
I'll focus on (1) and (3) because those are useful beyond just federated search. (1) also has the advantage that I can use my linkblog as source for an index. And (3) lets me subscribe to results of a search term which gets really useful once I gain the ability to crawl larger sources. (Like links on here with many upvotes.)
