Cosmic Desktop is a fantastic first draft

I'm using COSMIC on Fedora with niri as the compositor. I have no real complaints worth noting -- for me it's just enough desktop environment. The folks who have worked on COSMIC deserve some serious kudos. It'll be really interesting to see how much it takes off as it's approaching a stable release. FWIW, even though it's been in alpha for a long time and just went beta a bit ago, it's been solid for me. Missing features early on, but it's never been crashy in my experience.
Do you have any information on that? I've been playing around with niri, but haven't tried integrating it with a desktop environment, which I feel like would solve some of the rough edges I've been running into.
Yeah - check the cosmic-ext-extra-sessions repo. It has instructions, very easy to set up in my experience. I feel like I'm getting the best of both worlds -- a fairly minimal DE with all niri's features that I like.
Honestly, I'm surprised how well it works. After some tinkering I've found only two things that don't work:
cosmic-idle will always crash
This is using GTK right?
I can’t watch video so I can’t comment on the submission’s link, but I’m guessing its contents must be about the joy of being on a different desktop environment. In which case, if you’re fine with learning QtQuick, I recommend making your own desktop environment using QuickShell!
