It's an interesting time to be able to arbitrage the market!
In Australia rooftop solar has exploded resulting in major asymmetries in energy production - way too much during the day and massive price spikes early evening. Some electricity providers now give battery owners the ability to choose to take energy in/out of the market for profit (e.g Amber, they have an API too).
Oh yeah I'm with Octopus in the UK and there's lot of room for arbitrage, prices go negative sometimes, as in they pay us to use electricity; they have a decent API as well
Ah interesting. So much you can optimize from here - car charging etc.
I'm in the position of only having solar - it's a heritage-ish property where adding a battery would be tricky. When prices go negative I have to pay for the energy I'm producing, which makes sense, but still feels strange.
Largely I'm doing a much lower-rent version of what you have - time-shifting loads like dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, running the AC/heating harder during the day.
