It's amazing how cheap system resources feel when it's someone else's system resources and not your own.
In contrast when I check Firefox, I see it has two local, specific-purpose models downloaded, one that's 22.6MB and another that's 57MB (both for tab groups, which are excellent). And there's clear options to delete the models and/or disable them.
Oh, another instance of Google not knowing what consent is. I feel like they could've asked, or at least notified the user? What a nasty surprise.
FWIW, I have Chrome 148 on macOS and I don't see this option in the settings.
Similar things happen on our phones where Google, Samsung, etc. are installing random AI/ML crap, even if you don't use it. One example would be Android AICore.
At the same time every other website says it might not even work if you don't use Chrome. Private websites can do what they want I guess but government websites should be at least neutral.
