Library that evaluates distance between songs. it also comes with blissify, which makes smart playlists from tracks in an existing mpd collection.
I have been using it for about 2 years while preparing my selections on a relatively large (~150k tracks) collection and it hasn't failed me once.
this looks like a very interesting project, especially since I just started toying with music assistant. This application will only work with local mp3 files right?
for the initial analysis it will need to access the files (it saves match metrics into an sqlite database locally).
once they are all indexed it won't need direct access to the files.
here's the tool in question: https://github.com/Polochon-street/blissify-rs
Haven't tried blissify yet, but the example in bliss-rs didn't really seem to provide a good playlist...
I'll need to try this with my mpd library. I've been trying to get better auto playlists in Jellyfin with AudioMuse AI, but the install process for that is involved, and my tests were very slow. Maybe if this works well, I can write a Jellyfin plugin.
let me know how it goes. Would you recommend Jellyfin to someone coming from mpd? I have been always meaning to try it but never found any motivation to do so, maybe the time is now with weekend starting:)
I think the two play pretty different roles, even though they do overlap a little. On mpd, the server is playing music, and the client is just a remote control. With Jellyfin, the client plays the music, the server just streams music/video and metadata to it. mpd clients will display metadata that's already in in your collection, but the mpd server won't go out and fetch metadata for you. Jellyfin will add missing metadata to your collection if you tell it to.
As a music server, it's pretty good. I use Finamp on Android and Gelly on Linux with it. But there are standalone music servers that might be better; Jellyfin just happens to handle music, movies, and TV show collections and its music support is good enough. The built-in web client is not particularly good for music. It does integrate with Kodi well, which makes it nice as a TV backend.
