This is an extraordinarily high quality treatment. Very impressed.
What a treat, there are so many great things in there: geometry, human perception, math, optimization. Really cool!
When I was a kid and a first learned each letter was a number I spend ages trying to work out how those “8 bits” could be letters because there were clearly more than 8 parts in a character. Essentially I thought it was saying 8bits are the character bitmap (though obviously I had no idea of bitmaps existing back then).
Hurrah for usborne’s computer books :) (the bit thing was not their fault)
You can barely get away with a 7-segment display https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven-segment_display_character_representations
