Aaaand checks upstream xorg releases... still no major version of xorg released with features that have been merged on main since 2022. I don't like xlibre but I understand why it exists.
one problem is that making new Xorg releases is bound to expose new bugs and regressions to people which then takes up the attention of someone who could spend their time in better ways.
Yes, that is part of software development. Why even bother accepting PRs and doing reviews for new features if the code will never see the light of day?
PRs and so on are still being accepted because the Xorg codebase is also used for Xwayland with little to no attention going into using it as a standalone X server anymore.
The XLibre author themselves proved this when they broke Xorg a dozen times over because they couldn't even test their own code and others just trusted them.
Why bother accepting PRs for xserver that have nothing to do with xwayland, is what I meant.
